It's generally a pretty underwhelming class for tabletop. Shifter functions very well without gear which is a plus for low levels and campaigns with little loot, but so does Monk and Warpriest. Downside is a lot of its buffs are enhancement bonuses, so don't stack with your magic gear once you start to get items.
